THE FIGHTING RABBI STEALS THE SHOW

The lesson for the day was “Do not mess with The Fighting Rabbi”. Obviously, no one ever imparted that message to Javier “Pelon” Gomez who came all the way from Tiajuana, Mexico to learn the hard way at the Hard Rock Live where he was pitted against Yuri Foreman of Belarus, Israel and Brooklyn, who will be ordained as a Rabbi in the very near future, in the eight round Junior Middleweight co-feature on the “Knockout Night At Hard Rock Live” card in Hollywood, Florida.

When the bell rang, signaling the start of festivities, Foreman bounced out, content with moving around the ring and testing the knee that was damaged more than three years ago causing him to lose the title to Miguel Cotto at Yankee Stadium but Gomez, who heard the same bell had very different ideas. He came out swinging wildly. It was when he caught Foreman with an eye-watering bop on the nose that Yuri decided to change his lesson plan. He lashed out with whip-like left hooks and followed with strong overhand rights, nailing Gomez who still continued to fight back – or at least try. But when Foreman nailed him with a slashing left hook that virtually lifted Gomez off his feet and sent him crashing to the canvas, it was all over for the gritty Mexican who lay motionless throughout the count. It was a hushed arena for a few anxious moments until Gomez finally moved and came back to the world. A stunning knockout at 1:56 of the opening round.

For Foreman, 32-2, 9 KO’s, who is a master technician in the ring, using speed, dazzling footwork and boxing skills, it was his first knockout since 2006!

Somewhere in the very near future there will be a very observant, no-nonsense congregation in some Brooklyn synagogue. They will be very attentive, polite and obedient because they will know not to mess with their Fighting Rabbi !

Roberto “Demonio” Gonzalez, 20-2, 13 KO’s, former Mexican Welterweight Champion, scored a solid upset 10 round victory over Brazilian Michael Oliveira, 21-2, 16 KO’s, dropping Oliveira twice en route in a junior middleweight slugfest.

In a light heavyweight brawl scheduled for 10 rounds, former Cuban Olympian Yunieski Gonzalez, 13-0, 9 KO’s, stopped Ecuador’s Jinner Guerrero, 7-2, 6 KO’s at 1:36 of the 8th round.
